What I STARTED reading but couldn't finish...

The Pilgrim's Progress is a classic....one I think I should read.  I tried.  I just couldn't get into it.  Allegories are usually not my favorites (although I do love Hinds Feet on High Places).  I could certainly relate to "Christian" as he progresses (hee hee) on his journey.  Maybe another time...

...and while I'm feeling guilty for not finishing a classic....The Cost of Discipleship.  How could I NOT finish this, knowing that Dietrich Bonhoffer wrote it while suffering in a Nazi concentration camp?!?  It just wasn't what I expected, and again, I just couldn't get into it.  To my credit, I started reading it because it was on my friend, Lisa's, reading list for this year, and she didn't finish it either.  Anyone read this?  Love it?

Finally, one that I didn't finish that has NO guilt attached.  I started Confessions of a Shopaholic because a friend recommended it, I was looking for a light summer read, and I wanted to see why it is so popular.  It started out well, but after about a hundred pages of MORE overspending and rationalizing, I'd had enough.  I wasn't looking for life changing, but seriously, SOME plot would have been nice.  I didn't hate it, it just didn't grab me.  If I'm going to read fluff, I at least want to laugh and enjoy it.

This made me laugh... even with a true *love* of classic literature, I just.can.not. persevere through Pilgrim's Progress. I've tried several times and really can't. I think that John and I finished it together (out loud) when we were dating, but if we did, it was only to say that I had done it. :-)

your blog is so cheery. i LOVE the colors and header.

hinds feet on high places was a good read, but oh! it just frustrated me every time she had to go through another trial. i just wanted her to arrive already (i relate too much)!

i've wanted to read deitrich bonhofer's "cost of discipline."
it's on my list.

I too couldn't finish Shopaholic... also despite tons of recommendations, twice now I have tried to read The Mark of Lion series and just can not get into it.

Clever post!

HAH! Go ahead and feel better...I haven't read any of those.

When I first opened up your post I was hoping you weren't going to list "The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind". I'd love to hear your thoughts when you're finished with it.
