Delicious Bars

My friend, who is not a blogger, who was the one who convinced me I needed to start a blog, told me I should start posting recipes on my blog (how many times can I use "blog" in one sentence?).  Since I do enjoy both cooking and baking, I agreed that I should share this interest with my blogging public.  So, this is one of my favorite, quick but completely homemade, always have the ingredients on hand desserts.  The great part about making a dessert that you cut into squares is that you can take this dessert to multiple events by displaying the squares on a plate, and no one has to know you are double gifting (is that a real term) the goods.  I made this this week for this reason (don't know why I seem to be repeating words tonight).  It went over well at both my MOPS group and my book club (we discussed Jane Austin's, Emma.  Liked it but didn't love it.  The general consensus of the group was that it was long and hard to get through (some said painful).  I enjoyed the last 100 pages much more than the first 387).

I planned to post a picture, but the bars went over SO well, that they are well.....GONE!

Delicious Bars
In a large bowl mix:
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 cups flour
Mix with your hands until this forms fine crumbs.  Remove a little over 1 cup for the top.
To the rest of the crumbs, add:
1 tsp baking soda
1 egg
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup milk
Mix this and pour into a greased 9x13 pan.  Sprinkle with 1 cup chocolate chips and the reserved crumbs.  Bake at 350 degrees for 25 min.

THIS recipe that you've posted on your BLOG sounds like it is delicious. When you begin to post more recipes like THIS on your BLOG, you need to start a recipe BLOG.

(How did I do? I was trying to outdo you on the use of this and blog! heehee)

They sound so good :o) I am definitely going to have to try them out. I love to bake too and always look for new recipes.

Those do sound delicious! I'll have to try those.

BTW, Emma was my least favorite Austen book. Her others are *so* much better. Especially Mansfield Park and Pride & Prejudice.

I agree -- they do look like they'd be easy and delicious, with basic ingredients. I'll be trying them out soon. Thanks!
I was thinking about your valentine flowers and wondering what you think your hubby's love language is...

Those sound DELICIOUS, hence the name I suppose.

OK...I have been lost in The Other Boleyn Girl. Have you read it? If not, please do! It will make up for Emma. I promise.

I enjoyed the humor of your repetitive words more than the recipe!!

Just wanted to let you know I tried these delicious bars for the youth group back at church last night. They were a big hit. Even Dale liked them. He took four of them, before I went to back to church just in case there weren't any left. And that is saying something for a Nolt who doesn't eat desserts. I liked the fact that you usually have all the ingredients already, except this time. I had to go to the grocery store next door for the brown sugar.

Boy, I do I miss you. And our stocked refrigerator after you spent a weekend at home. *sigh*

Lynn, I am Claire Lincoln. I used to work with your mother and we have supper together almost every month at Isaacs. We ate together last night and she was telling me about your blog, and Marian Gingrich e-mailed me how to get into it. Your pictures are great. Your mother is so excited about their trip to see you, leaving on Friday. I will be praying for their flight, and your visit with them. God bless. Claire
