Some thoughts on blogging...

There are some things that keep entering my brain as I continue on this crazy blogging journey, and I thought I would share.  This post may be boring for those of you who are non-bloggers...

1.  Why the word verification, folks?  Does it really bring more security?  I've had mine turned off for most of a year, and I can't say I've gotten any alarming comments.  I had a friend recommend that I turn it on soon after I started blogging (you know who you are), and soon after she wrote to say she had just gotten a "junk comment," and hers was on!  I'll keep typin' in those silly letters, but really, why?  You don't have to be self conscious if you keep yours turned on.  I'll still love ya, but you'll know that I know that you know how I feel about it.  :o)

2.  I've gotten a few comments recently from people who seem normal from their comments.  I went to return the visit, but they do not make their profiles public.  Just know that I tried to visit, and I WOULD visit, but ya gotta leave me an address or open your profile....otherwise I can't find you!  I even had a friend from college leave me a comment, and YES, of course I know who you are!!!  I just have no way to get in contact with you.....sigh.

3.  For the love of all that is convenient, please link your email to your blog.  You do this under your profile, and this means that when you leave comments, I can just reply to your email instead of needing to find your email address...yes, I know this saves me about 30 seconds, but seriously, I could leave YOU a comment in that time.  :o)  I've never gotten a strange email as a result of linking my email to my blog.  It will not post on your blog, it just makes it easier for fellow bloggers when you comment.  Again, we can still be friends if you choose not to do this...see #1 above.

4.  I just need to close by saying how much I love blogging and the amazing women I have met here.  I have been able to keep in touch with friends, that let's face it, I probably wouldn't have otherwise.  I even know more about the daily lives of real life friends that I DO keep in touch with.  There are others of you that I only know through this crazy medium of blogging, but I consider you friends, and I can't wait to hear what is happening in your lives.  I pray for you, I rejoice with you, I laugh with you (and sometimes at you), I hurt with you, and I just know if I met you, it would be like we've known each other for years.

OK, so I laugh at all of your peeves....BUT, I HAVE gotten wierdos on my blog trying to post which is why I keep the word verification on. I suppose I could set it to just blogger approval, but I just haven't.... :)

And I will link my email on there. You are too funny. :)

I love this post. Nothing like using your blog to get a few things off your chest - right? I agree with all your tips and hope that your friends will heed your great advice.

I responded to your email you sent me last week while you were vacationing - did you get it? I hope your vacation was fun. I think I saw a post below this one to tell me about it!

I love your thoughts here, Lynn!

And just for you, I've added my email address to my profile. Although you know you can reach me via facebook anytime.

Yes, I think the word scramble is silly... maybe I should take mine off becuase I've gotten a couple of weird comments (that I can't figure out how to take off) anyway.

Ha ha...had to laugh at this post.

Yeah...I'm not sure why I keep the silly letter thing turned on--haven't really gotten anything weird. I've actually been contemplating turning it off but in my lack of blogger knowledge wasn't sure I'd be doing myself a favor.

I sure do enjoy not having to do it on other's sites! (Hmmmmm)

so the word verification...i guess it was a no brainer when i set things up and after doing it on other blogs...i get what you mean, so i'm headed there to fix it.

i was a little confused on linking my email? its in my profile, where else do you mean. and i thought i was all savvy and up on this bloggy thing.

great ideas!

I agree with just about everything except the word verif. Don't get me wrong - I despise typing in the letters. And I even took it off for a few months and nothing happened. But then one day I was inundated with spam comments (OK, so I got 5, but to me it was enough) and decided to turn it back on. I may experiment with it again in another couple of months and see if anything happens. I just don't want the headache of having to go in and delete comments off of posts.

I just have to say that I agree with you on the word verification things! They annoy me to no end... and half the time I type the made up word in the wrong way because I can't read it or maybe because it's harder to type made-up words... dunno!?!

Missing you around here!!

Okay, okay, I went in and linked my email to my blog.

And the word verification really is annoying to me as well. Especially since it sometimes is a bit difficult to read. Interesting though, only some computers make me do it.

#3 - AMEN!

However, if you do link to your email - be sure to check your emails occasionally for people who reply to your comments! :P

you are so funny - i've had some of the same thoughts.

i am one of your friends with word verification - i didn't put it on for a long time and then it seemed everyone had it so i thought it made it safer. you may convince me to take it off and see what happens. you are very persuasive!

i am thankful i met you through bloggyland and can call you friend!
