When I went to Florida with Lauren last Spring, Max stopped sucking his thumb. He sucked it almost non-stop and when I came back, he had stopped. Completely. I think he was so traumatized by me leaving that it just wasn't comforting to him so he gave it up.
3 weeks ago, he started again. I suppose Lincoln's arrival brought it on. So, if you hear of a patch for thumb suckers, pass it on to me and Kristen! ;)
Natalia was a diehard pacifier sucker (only at bedtimes)until about 21 months...of course it probably was prolonged due to my laziness and our move back to PA towards the end.
Our solution (can't remember where I heard this) was to GRADUALLY trim off the tip. You basically need to trim a hair-width slice every 4 days or so till it's no longer desirable. Then make it disappear forever. Worked like a charm! Haven't had to work through the addition of another baby though.

Liked the cartoon--very funny and appropriate!
Oh...I can so relate to this. T was 2.5 when we finally took it away...it was a rough week.
