Miller Holiday Gathering

Last weekend we enjoyed one of three annual gatherings with the family on my mom's side.  Our family has gotten so large that we don't try to get together ON holidays anymore because so many people would not be able to come.  We plan things just before or just after holidays.  This was our Thanksgiving/Christmas catch-all reunion.  There are a few families missing here.  My mom has four sisters, and all five girls have 2-5 children, so you can imagine how our numbers continue to multiply with marriages and great-grandchildren arriving.  Patrick and I are on the far left in this picture, and of course Adeline is with her grandma...

Sharing kisses with my grandfather.  He is the picture of joy and health and has blessed us with a rich Christian heritage.  I am so proud to be his granddaughter.

This side of the family is very musical.  We were encouraged to bring instruments and spent some time singing Christmas hymns in four part harmony.  Of course, I forgot to bring my flute, so I contributed by taking pictures.

I would have paid BIG, BIG bucks to have tasted the food at this shindig.

I love it that you all sing. What a great tradition. It makes me sad that singing has gone by the wayside with so many families.

Love you.

I love your Christmas look!
Isn't it a blessing to be part of a large Christian family? I have a family like that except we don't sing!

Oh your grandpa is indeed a cutie and looks like one of those grandpas you cherish forever. Your family sounds like my mom's side of the family. We have gotten so huge that we just basically find a date near the holidays that will work and make it happen. It's a holiday because we are all together anyway. Fun pics!!

I think it is great that you sing at get togethers. T's family events are HUGE as well, but no singing. Then there is my side...less than 10, LOL!!

Enjoy these last few weeks before Christmas! Is Adeline excited?

Hey, E's family always sings and plays instruments at family gatherings as well. I always loved watching his 90 year old grandpa play the trombone! Anyway, you've got me all in the Christmas spirit now!

Oh that looks like a lot of fun! I'm certain that Adeline will appreciate these family gatherings more and more as she gets older!

Gotta' love those big family get-togethers! My dad's side totals 60and my mom's is 35+ if all could make it. Only my dad's family sings though--and no gathering is complete until we do! (Must be a Mennonite thing.)

Pete jokes that he married me for my big family--he loves it! Except the singing thing--he isn't afraid to admit he can't carry a tune.

BTW, Addie looks adorable in that last pic. Natalia has the same jumper--you may borrow it when you need a 4T! :o)

Reminds me so much of my Miller family gathering, too! We always sing a hymn for grace and then Christmas carols, led by my grandpa. I love big extended families and seeing cousins and their children - some of who we only see once a year or so. I'm so disappointed I'm missing ours this year since we're in San Diego. :(
